Daniel Ricciardo clearly needs new management, as he’s pictured in a mother-of-the-bride pink satin jumpsuit (with one leg tucked into a blue sock, because fashion) and a fistful of Hermes scarves worn unconvincingly as a belt.ĭecent challenges to his fashion crown perhaps, but with several style awards under his (actual) belt and 19,000 followers on an unofficial Instagram account charting his outfits, Hamilton is still way out in front. You can really tell whose internal screams escaped loudest in wardrobe: George Russell and Pierre Gasly seem to have got away with outfits that could almost pass for normal, while Lando Norris gets lumped with a skimpy vest and sparkly starfish brooch in one shot, and a silky neck bow in another. While such statements used to make him an outlier among his F1 peers, they now seem to be catching – earlier this year, four of his competitors starred in a Vanity Fair photoshoot that made his get-ups look modest. His “love” of fashion presents in curious ways, such as the one-legged lace skirt he wore to the Met Gala, a heavy blue dress over matching trousers, and particularly shiny skin-tight satin suit. Hamilton is very rich, which likely goes some way to explaining his preoccupation with purchases of the visually discomfiting kind. Sure, the designer GCDS balaclava (we’ll go with balaclava for now) is bright pink and adorned with flowers, but there’s something frankly sinister about the protruding knitted heart over the mouth. The most fitting description is perhaps Bane from Batman meets nana’s favourite teapot warmer, with a dash of gimp.
Sorry – what is it? There’s presumably some kind of fancy fashion word that justifies the knitted… entity’s exorbitant cost, but quite what it is remains a mystery. (This same logic can be applied to hairdressers, whose skills and what rests atop their own heads remain at odds.) Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton has long been into bold style choices, which he has said allow him to “blow off steam” – most recently at this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix, where he was spotted walking around wearing a balaclava.
You can reliably tell when someone’s a “fashion person”, because they’re dressed terribly.
